Please Note: The lead times on our Corten Steel Portable Reservoirs are approximately 4 – 6 weeks from time of order.

Corten steel was created in North America in 1939 for use in the manufacture of ore wagons and is an alloy which forms a natural rust coating over time with exposure to the weather.

This rust coating acts as a protective layer which prevents the degradation of the steel inside.

It is ideal for use in sculpture as the coating is both attractive and long-lasting, high-profile examples include The Angel of the North by Anthony Gormley, the Chicago Picasso Sculpture and the Museum of Old and New Art in Australia.

With its high corrosion resistance, Corten steel is safe in all weather conditions and requires no maintenance.

Once it has completed the protective aging, the rust coating regenerates continuously when exposed to water and oxygen.

The attractive warm brown colour gives a natural look and proves a striking contrast to lush green planting.

Your Corten waterbox will be delivered in an un-rusted state and will look like it is made from normal steel.

It may have a slight patina or dark oily residue, which is completely normal.

Once weathering begins, the outer surface breaks down and the rusty colour will start to appear. The process takes around 6-9 months to complete and during this time any run-off may stain stone or concrete surfaces.

If you wish to speed up the weathering process, you can create a solution of salt and water and paint this over the surface of the steel. Repeat around 5 times over a couple of weeks and the colour will develop quicker.

Please Note: Once the protective rust layer has developed it still has the potential to stain objects it comes in contact with, so please be mindful of the surface it is placed on.

The perfect solution for anybody who doesn’t want to dig, our waterboxes provide a portable reservoir solution.

There is no manual install giving you the opportunity to place a water feature anywhere, even inside.

What makes it so special is you can now have a water feature on your patio without having to remove any paving, it would also be ideal for events as you can have a full-sized water feature set up with just the need for a power point.
